Our Team
Andrea De Matteis is the founding partner of De Matteis Law.
Andrea is a thought leader in payments regulation and contributes to the advancement of the payment industry as a trusted counsel, writer, and advocate.
Andrea has also been representing clients since 1996 in antitrust cases before the Italian Competition Authority and the European Commission.
Prior to founding De Matteis Law, Andrea headed for five years the Antitrust team at Labruna Mazziotti Segni, a major Italian banking and corporate law firm.
Previously, he practiced for ten years in Brussels as a Managing Associate at Linklaters, as an Officer at the European Commission (DG COMP), and as an Associate at Wilmer-Hale.

Simone has been advising clients since 2009 on a wide range of EU payments and cybersecurity regulations.
He has best-in-class expertise on PSD2 (and upcoming PSR/PSD3), DORA, Open Banking, IFR, AML, and other EU regulatory initiatives in the electronic and digital payments space.
He also represented clients in antitrust cases before the Italian Competition Authority, including several in-depth investigations.
Prior to joining De Matteis Law in 2011, Simone practiced antitrust and corporate law as associate of Labruna Mazziotti Segni, a major Italian banking and corporate law firm.

Pierluigi specializes in EU payment and crypto-asset regulations. He provides legal and strategic advice on MICA, Digital Euro Regulation, Instant Payments, Digital Identity, DMA and antitrust issues in EU regulated sectors.
He also represented clients in antitrust cases before the Italian Competition Authority, including several in-depth investigations.
Prior to joining De Matteis Law in 2019, Pierluigi trained as a research assistant in EU law at the University of Leicester (2015). He was visiting researcher at the Brussels School of International Studies (2017) and the University of Amsterdam (2018).

Denise provides legal advice in EU payment regulations and handles complaints in relation to payment fraud disputes. She reviews contractual documents and T&Cs in relation to products and services offered by Clients.
Before joining De Matteis Law in 2022, she was a trainee lawyer at the Italian State Attorney General’s Office and a judicial trainee at the Court of Rome.
Previously, she was an intern at the Italian Ministry of the Interior (2018).
